So what does this make Sonia Sotomayor’s success rate regarding reversals of decisions she’s handed down? Like, 85% overturned?
Definitely more like a failure rate…
Statement from Wendy E. Long, counsel to the Judicial Confirmation Network, on U.S. Supreme Court decision in Ricci v. DeStefano: (NOT EVEN ONE JUSTICE APPROVED SOTOMAYOR IN RICCI CASE )
“Frank Ricci finally got his day in court, despite the judging of Sonia Sotomayor, which all nine Justices of U.S. Supreme Court have now confirmed was in error.
“Usually, poor performance in any profession is not rewarded with the highest job offer in the entire profession.”
I have to wonder — at what point does a light bulb go on and someone suddenly ask, “Hey — does this woman ever apply the law to her judgments? Or does she just hand down rulings based exclusively on her stunning Latina wisdom, that inherently superior product of her rich Latino heritage and culture and experience?”
If it’s the latter — and all indications are that it’s not too far-fetched a notion — how can that possibly be fair to either the plaintiffs or defendants who stand before her? And then with regard to the Supreme Court – how can we as Americans have any confidence that she’ll consider cases and issues objectively? How is it that her greatest qualifying characteristic, being trumpeted as a great and important element lacking in the Court, is her ability to be subjective in her judgments?
Are we going to have to keep following behind her, revisiting and undoing her decisions? Seems we’ve been doing that, but we can’t really reverse any more of her decisions if she lands that lifetime appointment to SCOTUS…
Seriously. Can someone — anyone — give me just one good reason this woman is being considered to sit on the highest Court of the land?
